5 Screen-Free Halloween Activities for Kids

Halloween week is the best excuse to put down the devices and get hands-on.

Whether you've got an afternoon to fill or a whole week of school parties ahead, these five activities will keep kids ages 6–10 busy, creative, and in the Halloween spirit — no screen required.

The 5 Activities

1. Decorate a pumpkin (no carving required)

Younger kids can paint, sticker, or marker their pumpkin instead. Less mess, more personality.

2. Do a Halloween scavenger hunt

Hide small Halloween objects or candy around the house (or yard). Give kids a checklist and let them go. Takes 10 minutes to set up, keeps them busy for 30.

3. Make a Halloween playlist and have a dance party

Silly, not spooky. "Monster Mash" still works. Let the kids pick the songs and you'll hear a lot of laughing.

4. Watch a not-scary Halloween movie with popcorn

Hocus Pocus, Casper, It's the Great Pumpkin — the classics. Let them pick, make it a little event.

5. Print a Halloween activity pack and color your way through October

This is the one that buys you the most time. Print it once and pull out pages all month — after school, on rainy afternoons, or when you just need 20 quiet minutes.
